About Me
My long and varied career in wine started in London as a magazine writer in the early 90s, veered off to South Australia to take part in the 1994 vintage, then settled back in London as co-editor of the Which? Wine Guide. It included a long spell as the wine columnist for Delicious magazine and I am, after nearly twenty years, still a long-standing wine and drinks correspondent for the Telegraph – see my features at telegraph.co.uk and sometimes in print. I write freelance articles for other publications, including Decanter.
I’ve written many books including Wine Wisdom, Wine Made Easy, the best-selling (and tongue in cheek) Girls’ Guide to Wine and How to Make Your Own Drinks. I’ve won the prestigious Glenfiddich, Champagne Lanson and Roederer awards for my writing and was the International Wine and Spirit Competition’s Communicator of the Year. In 2016 I was named Rioja Communicator of the Year.

You may have spotted me as a regular wine expert on BBC1’s flagship cookery show ‘Saturday Kitchen’ over 12 years; before that I was resident wine expert on ‘Richard and Judy’ and I’ve taken part in many other TV and radio shows. And now I’m delighted to be one of the team at Wine Alive events, the new name for the expanded, rebranded Three Wine Men – look out for my live and virtual events with the team at wine-alive.com.

I’ve lived in Devon for 25 years and am a volunteer board director of Food Drink Devon, an ambassador for Dartmouth Food Festival and a busy, experienced wine judge!
